Radha Krishna Temple Startford

Radha Krishna Temple Startford

It is rightfully said that God is the source of all the pleasures we enjoy in this world and they reside in HIM in their excellence and perfection. Therefore, the people who go to the temple, place entire responsibility of their welfare in God.

Similarly, this temple has been built upon Fath, Dedication and Devotion of the devotees and inspiration of spiritual awareness of the people who visit it.It is for this very reason that the temple has achieved the same respect in Britain, as some major temples of India.

History of Radha Krishna Temple Startford

It is a matter of great honour and pride to share a few of my humble thoughts on occasion of the silver jubilee celebration of the temple. The Centre was founded in September 1967 with a view to provide a Hindu Religious, philosophical and cultural Centre in the U.K., arrange lectures and discussion on Hindu religion, providing a library of religious, books of periodical, a HINDU TEMPLE with Hindu priests for performing ceremonies and conducting public worship and prayer, Means for the understanding and discussion of basic concepts of the various schools of Hindu Philosophy and basic values of the Hindu way of life, and unity between Eastern and Western cultures and thoughts. Since that date, we have been regularly and consistently promoting the religious, cultural and social needs of the Hindu Community and arranging Satsang meetings, devotional songs, Kirtan and prayers. Lectures on religious topics had been the regular feature.

TEMPLE The presiding deity is Radha Krishna but other deities of Lakshmi Narayan, Durga Mata, Ram Darbar, Holy Shiv-Ling, Shri Ganesha ji, Baba Balak Nath and Hanuman ji have also be established. Thus wide ranges of spectrum of Hindu GODS are represented and the disconnected devotee can concentrate his prayers to the deity of his choice. The Temple is open every day for daily worship and prayers which often brings together a large number of devotees from all over London and east London in particular. To these activities, we have now added language classes in Hindi, Gujrati, and English and we also wish to further extend the area of our activities for the benefit of the community. It may not be out of a place to mention here the fact that practically the entire expenses of the purchase of the Temple Hall, its renovation and modernisation have been financed from the Hindu Centre and the temple’s own resources which are in fact almost wholly delivered from members generous contributions and donations as well as from the Hindu Community as a whole by the way of Arti and other offering people make in the Temple.

It has been an exercise in self help and community effort all the way. So far we have had no financial help from the council or from any other public or official source. These have been some years of acute struggle but with the help of divine grace we have continued to grow from the strength to strength and have now carried out much needed and long awaited improvements and amenities in the temple with the tremendous enthusiasm and the generous support of the Hindu community as a whole. Building the Centre has grown in strength due to great enthusiasm and support extended to us by the devotees and sympathizers to whom I am personally grateful and convey my sincere and humble thanks. As outside of the building still needs some improvements, our next project is to transform its appearance into that of a Hindu Temple as per plans shown. In the end, in all humility, I wish to thank all those devotees who have supported this Temple and are continuing to do so and also owe my thanks to the members of the Executive Committee, other Trustees and the numerous friends who have helped immensely in the uplifting and popularizing this Temple. I pray to Almighty God to enlighten us further and lead us all, to a glorious future.
