ISKCON Belfast Radha

What is ISKON?

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is the spiritual institution founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in July 1966 as a continuation of the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya sampradaya. ISKCON was personally directed by its Founder-Acarya Srila Prabhupada until his departure on November 14, 1977. According to Srila Prabhupada’s will, ISKCON continued thereafter under the ultimate managing authority of the Governing Body Commission (GBC).

 History of ISKCON Belfast Radha

Brooklands was built in 1909 and it was once the property of the distinguished architect Percy Morgan Jury who also designed the house. This gorgeous building is mentioned in Buildings of County Antrim. The area of Dunmurry was once the home of many wealthy families. iskconbelfast.com/

In 1984 Dr Donnelly sold ‘Brooklands’ house and it became the new temple for the Hare Krishna devotees and home for their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Madhava.

Many of the original features are still in place including the front door, window frames and beautiful fireplaces which are still working and used regularly. All the flooring is original as are the internal doors. In the hall is an original dresser that is still used today. What was once the Drawing Room is now the Temple Room and has a beautiful altar.

It is an established practice since 1990s at the Temple in Belfast to participate in primary and secondary school children education. Last year similar programmes by ISKCON in UK reached well over 400 schools and more than 30,000 pupils and students. We take this opportunity to thank the many teachers, trainers, Religious Education advisers and consultants, government officers and other Religious Education specialists who, we feel, have been the backbone of our success. And thank you to all.
